No I’m not talking about the song from the sixties although many of you will never have heard of that at all and I was just a tiny tot back then, lol. This is really about having the realisation that each and everything that happens in your business is a happening worthy of reporting to the world. That’s what marketing is really about, The Happening.
What is happening in your business right now, today? Things you may not think are news worthy often are, and that is what online marketing is all about – shouting your news from the rooftops. Did you get a new consignment in? Did you come up with a new way of doing things? Is a major event due to happen, like a new website? or new offices?
This is something that can be built just like the movie moguls market a new movie, by building suspense and anticipation so that people are actually waiting for it to happen just so they can be there. How do you build this anticipation? By making every one of your steps toward your goal newsworthy, by keeping your clients, customers and prospects in the loop. This is called event based marketing, where everything that happens is seen as an event to be publisized.
A word of caution though, do not bore them to death, or you will lose them forever. This is something that requires a little imagination on your part, better yet brainstorm it with others. How can you create an interesting ‘happening’ marketing promo for your latest Happening?
One of the most effective ways of doing this is short (30 to 90 sec ) videos and uploading a new one into your favourite video sharing site, plus adding it into your profile on social sites. Making it fun, perhaps even a little offbeat and interesting enough to pique the interest of your prospects and customers is key.
It’s all about the happenings that lead to the major Happenings in your business. If you realise what a bonus the ordinary day to day happenings in your business can be to your business you will never run out of ways to market your company, website or service. Marketing can be so much fun for both you and your prospects if you just think outside the square.
