So you have a Facebook business Page or are thinking seriously of getting one. My first question to you is: “Why?”

You need to know your outcomes and goals before you start. As yourself these questions:

* Why do you want a page?
* What are you going to do with it?
* How are you going to use it to your advantage?
* What do you want your fans to do when they get there?
* How are you going to keep your fans engaged?
* What is your ultimate outcome?
* What do you need to know and/or learn to make the best use of your FB page? (html, adding images, creating an application..)

Engaging your fans has to be the very first goal, you need to know how your page is going to create and continue to engage fans. First of all look at the environment, the ecology of your page. Is it exciting to look at? Is there great copy in all the right places? Does the page have energy? If not it is time to do some research. Lots of people have written about how to create a vibrant FB page and create engagement, so do your research, work out what will work for you and your business and then begin to implement those strategies.

Some of the best are to add images to add colour, create a landing page for your FB business profile and have all comers land on that before they see anything else – this is usually done with a FBML or HTML box – an application. If you know no scripting you may have to hire someone to create the code for you, however this can be well worth it. once you have your HTML box you can then add images, copy with colour and highlights and an optin box to a giveaway of some kind.

You can also add more interactive things like a game, user surveys and more to spice and add vibrancy to your page. Take a look at what some users have done, serach these pages from your Facebook search bar:

Social Media Edge

Dunkin Donuts

Pizza Hut

Zippy’s

Victorias Secret

Cheetos

Just using some of the ideas on these pages will make it worthwhile having a Facebook Fan Page. Just remember you can do so much with it while creating back links to your site. When building the page import your Youtube vids, your blog through an RSS app, add events if you have them regularly, and make sure you are checking in on the page on a regalar basis to interact with fans.

Take a look at this TOP 40 of FB Pages for more inspiration.
Have fun developing your FB Page while keeping in mind your goals, your fans and getting and keeping their engagement! Remember too, to give your fans plenty of reasons to follow the links back to your site, think about freebies, newsletters, commenting on blogs, create a video or competition on your site and invite your fans to go to that page to win a prize, ask them to optin for special discounts only available to FB fans. There are so many ways you can create energy and pathways to and from your site just use your imagination
